WASHINGTON — The Gulf oil spill has dealt a big blow to expanded offshore drilling, leaving the nation’s energy problems as murky and unsettled as ever.
The disaster may bolster arguments for greater energy conservation and renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, environmentalists say. But it’s hard to see any other political beneficiaries, and under the best of scenarios, few experts think the nation’s thirst for foreign oil will abate for years to come.

BP Solar Completes Year-long Restructuring San Francisco, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
BP Solar confirmed that it has completed it restructuring efforts that included stopping production at its facility in Maryland. Silicon casting, wafering, and cell manufacturing at the plant ended in late March. Approximately 320 positions will be eliminated out of 430 positions at the Frederick location. BP Solar also said that it will maintain its U.S. presence in sales and marketing, research and technology and project development.
