#Solar #PV Revolution! Micro-#Inverters – PV modules that directly produce AC Power – (#renewable #cleantech)
Feb 14th
February 15, 2010 The Transition from Standard PV to AC Modules by Miles C. Russell, GreenRay Solar
Here is a little-known historic event: the first-ever grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) system in the U.S. was powered up in 1979 on the University of Texas campus in Arlington. I was a young engineer at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory then, and was sent to document that system’s birth. As I recall, the initial operation of that inaugural PV system garnered little attention. In retrospect this was truly a momentous occasion, offering a faint glimpse of a very bright future.

A new report charts path through the U.S. regulatory minefield. by Paul Gipe, Contributor Washington, D.C. United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has issued a long-awaited legal analysis of how states could implement feed-in tariffs and still comply with federal law.
The January 2010 report, Renewable Energy Prices in State-Level Feed-in Tariffs: Federal Law Constraints and Possible Solutions, was written principally by Scott Hempling with the National Regulatory Research Institute (NRRI) under contract to NREL.
Hempling treads ground that others have tread before him, including California’s Attorney General, Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown. The Attorney General filed comments on who has More >
25% US Renewable Electricity Standard Will Create 274,000 Jobs
Feb 8th
February 8, 2010
Washington, D.C., United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
A new study released by Navigant Consulting finads that a 25% by 2025 national Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) would support hundreds of thousands of new American jobs and prevent a near-term collapse in some industries. Job growth in the wind, solar, biomass, waste-to-energy and hydropower industries would particularly benefit the Southeastern U.S. and manufacturing states whose Congressional delegations have had a history of voting against incentives and other measures designed to support the renewable energy sector.
The “Job Impacts of a National Renewable Electricity Standard” study was released by the RES Alliance for Jobs and found More >
World Future Energy Summit – Summary Review
Jan 29th
January 29, 2010 World Future Energy Summit Last week’s World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi was a coming-together of state and industry leaders with plenty of unfinished business from December’s Copenhagen climate talks. by Jackie Jones, Consulting Editor Abu Dhabi, UAE [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
The emirate of Abu Dhabi — one of the world’s leading oil and gas producers — has its focus on the future. A post-oil future. Abu Dhabi has started to put into practice a bold commitment to renewable and sustainable technologies that will enable it to continue as an energy leader after oil has declined.

GREEN BEER – Brewery to use Price Timed Generation
Jan 4th
January 4, 2010
By being tied into the smart grid in Fort Collins, Colo., New Belgium Brewing Co. will know when it makes sense to produce its own power, reports the Coloradoan.
The city’s distributed energy generation program is designed to let companies and organizations that have their own generating capacity to add power back to the grid during times of peak loads. The program is part of the Fort Collins Zero Energy District, or FortZED.
In New Belgium’s case, that means a new 200-kilowatt engine that runs on diesel and/or natural gas will kick on when the city signals that power demand is peaking, said Jenn Orgolini More >
PODCAST – Inside Renewable Energy: The Real Story of Cap and Trade
Jan 4th
January 3, 2010
In the wake of the Copenhagen talks and the passage of a climate bill in the U.S. House last year, the debate over cap and trade will likely intensify as we move 2010. Unfortunately, the debate in the halls of Congress, on the blogosphere and on the television talk shows is often tainted by bad information and oversimplified characterizations of the policy. So, in the midst of this ever-growing (and sometimes deafening conversation), we decided to dig into the real story of cap and trade ourselves. Oscar Wilde once said: “People know the price of everything and the More >
This Year in Wind Power
Dec 29th
December 29, 2009 The economic stimulus story threaded its way through the calendar year in 2009. by Carl Levesque, AWEA
Over 7,000 MW of wind power are expected to be installed this year in the U.S. That’s down from 2008′s record 8,545 MW, but that still would make it the second best year in the history of the industry. Not bad, at a time when the rest of the economy tanked and the value of your primary financial policy driver became all but worthless.
What events drove those highly respectable numbers? What pushed them down and, likewise, what kept them up? What other industry More >
Senate Bill Could Block Solar & Wind Projects in California – Renewable Energy World
Dec 28th
December 28, 2009
Washington, D.C., United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) last week introduced a bill that she says will improve the federal permitting process to advance large-scale wind and solar development on suitable lands. But opponents argue that it will simply block renewable energy development on some federal lands in California.
The pending introduction of the legislation has already prompted a number of companies, including BrightSource Energy, to cancel or change development plans for projects slated for that area of California.
The legislation, titled the California Desert Protection Act of 2010, would require the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to establish offices More >
