Inside Renewable Energy How Do We Define the Green Collar Economy?
The push for more green-collar jobs has been hailed as the New Deal of our time – a revolution. A movement. But amidst all of this talk about the green collar economy, we still haven’t defined exactly what it is. Certainly, the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries are vast and diverse, touching upon every sector imaginable: Construction, manufacturing, project management, sales, design, agriculture and information technology. In this podcast, we’ll look at how the green-collar economy is taking shape around the world today and what it will mean for these various industries. Linda Lacey, General Manager of EVS Metal, describes how one small steel fabrication company is becoming part of the green-collar economy. Jill Kubit, assistant director of the Cornell Global Labor Institute, describes the international trends for job growth in clean energy. Cathy Calfo, executive director of the Apollo Alliance, talks about how to help workers in traditional manufacturing industries transition into new types of clean energy equipment manufacturing. And Bracken Hendricks, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, envisions how renewable energy and other clean technologies will transform the way we think about work, prosperity and economic growth. Inside Renewable Energy is a weekly audio news program featuring stories and interviews on all the latest developments in the renewable energy industries.
