Position Description
Will support the JSC-ERT group in meeting Environmental Support Services Contract obligations including, but not limited to: administration, development and enhancement of environmental programs at JSC and other associated facilities in a cost efficient manner. Specifically, will support the Pollution Prevention (P2) Program, Sustainability Program and internal/external communication. The Sustainability Program encompasses environmental management systems (EMS), energy and water conservation, material substitution, sustainable acquisition and process improvements across the Center. Will support all current regulatory initiatives, setting goals for the future, and includes both Sustainability Opportunity Assessments (SOAs) as well as Pollution Prevention Opportunity Assessments (PPOAs).


Will perform technical and regulatory activities, analyses, implementation and oversight for the purpose of minimizing the generation of wastes, water pollutants and air emissions, conserving resources, and reducing the compliance risks at facilities to comply with the Pollution Prevention (P2) and Sustainability Program requirements. PPOAs will be performed at all JSC sites to identify areas of environmental improvement and include cost and payback evaluations for the customer’s review. SOAs are conducted to research and compare opportunities that conserve, minimize pollution and reduce compliance risks and include a life cycle cost analysis. Will perform Industrial Solid Waste (ISW) minimization assessments and pollution prevention opportunity assessments (PPOAs) for waste streams at the facilities. Update and submit P2 Plans for the facilities in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Will develop and implement environmental awareness and communication through the environmental webpage and a quarterly newsletter. Communication also includes planning and participation in onsite promotional activities and events throughout the year. Will write technical reports, State and Federal environmental award nominations, and will provide input on newsletters and webpage articles (i.e. facts, blogs, regulatory information, etc).

Required Skills
2 to 5 years of related educational or work experience or a combination specifically related to sustainability and pollution prevention. 3 to 5 years of work experience involving air, water and waste programs. Working knowledge of state, federal, and local environmental regulations. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong planning and organizational abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Access). Knowledge of Industrial Solid Waste (ISW). Webpage and Access database knowledge preferred.


Education
BA/BS in Science or Engineering with an emphasis on sustainability, relevant discipline, or equivalent. Advanced degree may substitute for experience.
